Perroquet - Observation point

The panoramic platform Perroquet is located in the western part of the nature reserve De Westhoek in De Panne. This peaceful viewpoint can be found along the Helmpad, close to the French border.

• Varied landscape: In the surrounding area, you will find drifting sand, marram grass, dune scrub, open dunes and damp dune valleys. Each season gives the area a different appearance, from fresh spring growth to golden dunes in late summer.
• Walking through De Westhoek: The platform can easily be combined with a walk through the nature reserve. Nearby, you will find the Helmpad, the Grenspad and walking paths towards the Duinhoekstraat, the French border and the surrounding dunes.
• Especially interesting for nature lovers: De Westhoek is a valuable dune area with a wide variety of plants and animals. The landscape is partly managed by large grazers, such as Highland cattle and Konik horses.

Panoramic platform Perroquet is especially recommended for walkers and nature lovers who want to discover the most natural side of De Panne. In clear weather, the view reaches towards the sea, the French border region and the surrounding dune valleys.

• Starting point at the Duinhoekstraat: A practical starting point is Café Perroquet, located on the Duinhoekstraat[/i], on the Belgian-French border. From there, you can walk straight into the nature reserve towards the panoramic platform.
• Accessibility: The platform can only be reached on foot via the walking paths in the nature reserve. Please keep in mind that the sandy paths can sometimes be more demanding than the distance might suggest.
• Other viewpoints in De Westhoek: In the nature reserve De Westhoek, there are two other viewpoints:

  • viewpoint near the Ligusterpad
  Together, these places give a fine impression of the variety in the dune landscape of De Westhoek.
